DESCRIPTION:For March we will cover two topics – NEM 3.0 and a proposed cable management solution for home chargers. \nNet Metering 3.0 is scheduled to go into effect this April. It will drastically change how utilities will compensate customers with home solar for excess generation. One of the stated objectives is to encourage home batteries to store the excess rather than on the grid. \nAnyone with a home charger faces the problem of wrangling a thick charge cord on the floor or ground. In this position he successfully commercialized Microgrid and renewable design methodologies from the Lab environment to a multi-million-dollar business that is now a world-wide leader in the Microgrid space. In this endeavor he and his team also received the prestigious Edison Gold Award in 2021. From March 2017 to December 2018\, he was the area head of the Microgrid and Smartgrid department at BEST/Bioenergy2020+ and responsible for the successful establishment of the Smartgrid and Microgrid research area that focuses on research that will be used and commercialized by industry partners. Before that Michael Stadler had been a Staff Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory\, California and leading the Grid Integration Group. He holds a Master’s degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. summa cum laude in economics. He is a recipient of the PECASE Award of the White House. The Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.
